A time for clarity, not simplicity
17 December 2025

As I reflect on recent events, I keep coming back to one uncomfortable question: have we lost the ability to have complex, respectful, hard conversations?

We oversimplify and reduce multi-layered, complex and deeply personal issues into hashtags and Instagram posts. Quick promises are made to appease. People lean into a short narrative that suits them in the moment and then share it without thinking.

There is no easy way through some of the challenges society and organisations face: and in many instances, we won't have all the information or see the full picture.
In those moments, we have to focus on making things clear - not simple - clear.

Clarity can be uncomfortable because there is nowhere to hide. Sometimes it means admitting there are gaps in our knowledge. It can feel overwhelming when you finally start to see the different parts and layers of a complex situation.

But at least in that moment, you can figure out some first steps and first questions to ask.

I believe clarity creates courage, builds compassion and invites everyone to be heard.

It's time to put aside the hashtag mentality. Instead, let's listen generously, be open to different thinking and embrace clarity.
